Each quarter, e² highlights a young visionary and supports their creative journey. We follow what it is they are passionate about and give them a platform for a wider audience to view, appreciate, and financially support their vision.
We are looking for youth who:
14-year-old Bashir, from Washington, DC, is a motivated young artist who never stops creating! As a 5th grader, Bashir was designing comic books and now is creating digital drawings on an iPad Pro after a successful GoFundMe campaign. He has always been an avid comic book reader, anime enthusiast, and artist, and has since created his own set of animated characters representing himself and his friends. Bashir is interested in learning about animation and has already begun teaching himself how to animate his drawings using various apps.
As our spotlight for this quarter, Bashir was able to put his art work for sale online, on shirts and phone cases. ALL proceeds from our shop go DIRECTLY to Bashir also known as "BOP," the young artist. He wants to use the funds to purchase apps that will support animation.
Q: Tell the world a little bit about yourself. Who's Bashir?
A: My name is Bashir. I'm from DC. I started off drawing when I was like four because my uncle liked to draw. And I used to watch a lot of animations when I was younger and stuff like that so I just want to study drawing. Got my little art. When I got to elementary school I started doing more drawings, and then I met Ms. Gabby, and then I started doing math drawings because I liked math. Now I am influenced a lot by Dragon Ball Z.
Q: How have you grown as an artist?
A: A LOT! I used to draw boxes as heads and rectangle arms. I started drawing on my phone a few months after my thirteenth birthday and then I got the iPad and I started drawing on ProCreate.
Q: How do you want to continue to grow as an artist?
A: Animation! I want to make my own show. It would be about me, but just more intense. I want to do it like Boondocks style, created with my friend who also likes to draw. We are supposed to be making a Manga for one of my friends that wants us to make a book for him. So that's what I'm doing right now.
Q: Picture yourself ten years down the road. You're 24 years old...what do you envision for yourself?
A: I'll probably be a YouTuber with a lot of subscribers! I am of course creating art, probably came up with two animated shows by then. If art doesn't work, I probably want to do acting.... Or I probably will do both!
